Hockey Griffens |
While the winter freeze put most of our pre-season hockey training on ice, the First Team and a select squad of recent OA's were able to play a practice match the mark the first use of the fabulous new electronic scoreboards at Tilsley Park which have been generously funded by the Hockey Griffens Committee.
The scoreboards are the latest "Pro L" model from SO Scoreboards and feature electronic names, three digit scoring and a countdown clock, all operated from a simple, handheld remote control easily used by either an umpire or willing parent.
The OA team, a star-studded line-up of many of the school's best players from recent years, was kindly assembled by long term Griffen James Bury, in his ongoing Ambassador role for Hockey at Abingdon, despite all three of his sons now having left the school.
The OA's also featured Luke Hooper, Matteo Bignone and Reuben McLusky from last year's National Plate winning squad which was especially significant as the scoreboards are now a wonderful reminder of the hard work and generosity of outgoing Griffens, Matthew Hooper, Julie Bignone and Fergus McLusky.
As for the score, let's just say there were lots of goals and we were pleased to be able to see that the second digit column on the scoreboards works just as well as the first one.
