Diane Faulkes, known to several generations of School House boarders, passed away suddenly in March of this year. Di worked at Abingdon for almost 18 years from September 2000 to August 2018 for the majority of that time as the Matron in School House. Tony, Di's husband, also worked for the foundation as a bus driver, and sadly passed away just over a year before Di in February 2024.
One former boarder (and Head of School) said: "Her everyday commitment to her job and to us is perhaps most profoundly highlighted by the fact that our mum loved her about as much as we did, no doubt because she knew that her four boys would be in the safest of hands whilst we were away from home. Di will, first and foremost, be remembered as the person who turned feelings of homesickness and anxiety over starting at a new school into ones of enjoyment and comfort. Life at Abingdon simply would not have been the same without her."
Abingdon was represented at Di's funeral by both current and former members of the common room and support staff; she will be hugely missed.
