Andrew attended Abingdon from 1960 – 1967 and his School reports picture a hard working and well behaved student who scored good marks in most things, particularly mathematics, and receiving the Chemistry Prize in his penultimate year. He went on to study for a BA in Mathematics at Brasenose College, Oxford.
Following that, he went to work for ICL Bracknell, initially as a programmer and over a period of 22 years worked his way up to the role of senior system designer. Unfortunately, at that point, ICL made him redundant and despite many efforts, he was unable to find further employment.
Following the death of his father, his mother fell into poor health and Andrew returned to Botley to help care for her, until her death in the year 2000. Andrew then sold the house he had in Bracknell and spent his remaining years in his parents’ house in Botley.
He never married and lived quietly, following his main interests of football – he was an avid supporter of Oxford United – and cricket. He also loved musicals and went to many live performances. He was an enthusiastic member of U3A and also a regular user of the Botley library. He was a keen follower of “Strictly Come Dancing”.
Andrew enjoyed visiting his cousin Lynn and her husband David, for walks and outings, Christmas and New Year celebrations with them and their family which he enjoyed very much. In later years, his health declined and he succumbed to pneumonia. His final conscious moments were spent listening to a commentary of Oxford United playing Southampton, made possible by the best care from staff in CCU at JR hospital.
